His mother, single and constantly dating, treats him poorly. Mrs. Mackessy plays a negative role in Robbie’s life that eventually brings him to do certain mischievous things. From neighbor’s and Robbie’s accounts, one can clearly see the environment in which he lives. Through a next door neighbor’s testimony we learn that Robbie has been seen frequently unattended away from and at his home. F .....

.... died. I really don't know what I would do, I don't know how to fly a plane. Luckily, Brian had been taught by Jake how to fly the plane. Brian didn't know how to land so he flew the plane into a lake. This part of the book was hard to believe, there was a lot of "coincidents." Brian showed his intellectual side when he realized that when Jake was suffering from his heart attack he turned the plane to the left. That could greatly increase the time it would take for a search party to find him. I have to admit, so far this is one of the best opening parts I .....

Throughout the story accusations are "thrown" at others from the community who are believed righteous. Ultimately in this story the sin is "coming" directly from the black-man or the devil. The girls are believed to have formed a pact with the devil and are now attempting to lure others to come with them. Overall, in both works sin is the major theme and how sin affects the lives of the people and their communities. The scaff .....

It says the men should be stoic, stable, and independent. Boys are not to share their pain or grief openly. Also this code says the boys should be daring and do risky behaviors. The most traumatizing code is the fact that boys should not express feelings which might be mistakenly as “feminine” –dependence, warmth, and empathy. This causes boys to never act this way and hide these .....
