She has always been a real smarty Whenever we visit her, she knows where to party. She will always be a part of the group Her name is Julie and she’s the second of the troop. .... the first and foremost of these being the Thought Police, a corps of law officers who monitor the populace through undercover agents, infinite amounts of surveillance cameras and hidden microphones, and a two-way television screen that can be turned down, but never off. A new language is also being introduced to retard thought: Newspeak. This new English dialect uses shortened and compacted forms of modern day words that subconsciously facilitate the assimilation of misinformation through the omission of instances such as “science”, “freedom”, and “religion .....

Cathedral 2
Number of words: 699 - Number of pages: 3

.... what a cathedral is. I think there are may different themes in this short story. For instance, I think that prejudices is one of the main themes which is shown through the husband’s way of react, when he hears that a blind man is coming. Because he does not know what to expect, he imagines a man, totally different, who does not have the same habits or knows the same thing as “normal” people. “I remembered having read somewhere that the blind did not smoke because, as speculation had it, they couldn’t see the smoke they inhaled. .....

Ode To The West Wind
Number of words: 1556 - Number of pages: 6

.... obvious adaptation of Dante and he relies upon Dantesque ideas to write his poetry. The image of the leaves being blown by the wind “like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing”(l.3) depends on the Inferno in Paradiso for the image to have an effect on the reader. The various cycles of death and rebirth are examined with reference to the Maenads who were fabled to have destroyed Orpheus’s body and spread it around the world. This is the underlying theme to the poem with Shelley alluding to the breaking of Christ’s body on the cross and how .....

Brave New World 3
Number of words: 2730 - Number of pages: 10

.... New World is a book about a future that seems more viable and less brave with each passing day as our values become more materialistic and as our faith in God dwindles slowly to be replaced by technology. Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World to increase our awareness of this frightening future we seem to be progressing towards so we can prevent it from happening. In the futuristic society of the novel, God has been replaced by science and technology as a source substance and meaning in life. As a consequence the words “Christ” and “God” .....

A Rose For Emily New South Vs. Old
Number of words: 963 - Number of pages: 4

.... old. Emily personified a way of living, a society, that was slowly being dismissed. Examples of her clinging to the old ways of the south are found everywhere. One example can be found in this short excerpt from the story. "On the first of the year they mailed her a tax notice. February came and there was no reply. They wrote her a formal letter asking her to call at the sheriff's office at her convenience. A week later the mayor wrote her himself, offering to call or to send his car for her, and received in reply a note on paper of an archaic shap .....

Of Mice And Men
Number of words: 1593 - Number of pages: 6

.... the book ends on a harsh, cruel note, topped off by the lack of understanding and compassion of an extraordinarily immoral and cruel man. Whatever Steinbeck’s intent for writing such a jarring ending, he leaves the reader with a powerful sense of the world’s immorality. In this book there were several characters, but only a few had significant roles. I would have to say Lennie is the protagonist of the book even though George is an extremely critical character as well. Lennie Small is described as being a monstrous man wit .....
