She sat down and wrote him a letter and gathered all the things he had ever given her and put them all in a box .....

.... Jackie as an assertive character. He tries to have things done his way. “I was too honest, that was my trouble…”(O’Connor, 335). This quote is referring to Nora “sucking up” to her grandmother for a penny every Friday. Jackie couldn’t do this because he expresses what he is feeling. He’s always battling with his sister. An especially memorable moment is when Jackie gets under the table and tries to stab Nora with a butter knife because she is trying to get him to eat grandmother’s food (O’Connor, 357). .... Anne met Helen, she knew that the job to teaching her would not be an easy one. She first had to gain Helen’s trust, which was a task that was almost impossible. When Anne saw how Helen lived, she knew that things were going to have to change and quickly. One day, Anne was teaching Helen table manners. Helen was used to just grabbing food off her family’s plates. When Helen reached Anne’s plate, she refused to give Helen the food. A struggle went on for hours, until finally Helen was able to fold Burton-2 her napkin, which was a big acc .....

.... you also got to have some fun missing half an hour of class. Because the boy’s felt threatened by this question, they started bugging and picking on the girls to make them change their minds. But the girls didn’t, and that is what changed their lives. At the end the teacher did let the girls go for the water, and that was a big change for the girls in those days.
