Term Papers on Legal and Government
The Prohibition
Number of words: 1619 - Number of pages: 6.... anything having an alcoholic content of anything more than 0.5 percent, omitting alcohol used for medicinal and sacramental purposes. This act also set up guidelines for enforcement (Bowen, 154). Prohibition was meant to reduce the consumption of alcohol, seen by some as the devil’s advocate, and thereby reduce crime, poverty, death rates, and improve the economy and the quality of life. “National prohibition of alcohol -- the ‘noble experiment’ -- was undertaken to reduce crime and corruption, solve social problems, reduce the tax burden created by prisons and .....

Hammurabi's Laws
Number of words: 1238 - Number of pages: 5.... the fact of the biasness of these codes is rule number 154:
“If a man have sexual intercourse with his daughter, he shall be expelled from this city”3
I do not think this punishment fits the crime. As stated before, the punishment for robbery is much harsher than for this crime. Incest only grants expulsion. To steal a tangible item and inflict fear, you die; to steal a girl’s innocence and dignity, inflict pain, hatred, fear, and just an overall tainted feeling, you get to start your life over in a new city.
Another of these laws that show exactly .....

Gangs
Number of words: 1525 - Number of pages: 6.... is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10
year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to
$400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors
they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against
their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence
becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The
average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom.
Since nobody can completely turn off their minds, kids must be learnin .....

Whats Wrong With Communism
Number of words: 257 - Number of pages: 1.... This form of government, very unlike yours, puts the power to the
people. Communism is a very old, and decaying way of rule. Communism, in a
broad definition, puts the ownership of farms, mines, factories, etc. in the
hands of a group of people. This leaves the individual with less freedoms.
This also weakens the economy. The Democracy is much the opposite.
The Constitutional Democracy in particular, is exceptionally effective.
Under this government many things are accomplished. A person has the ability
to make what they want of their life. They may succeed with flying colors .....

Number of words: 444 - Number of pages: 2.... not able to control their habit.
The effects on major organ systems include a wide range of digestive disorders
such as ulcers, inflammation of the pancreas, and cirrhosis of the liver. The nervous system
can also be permanently damaged. Blackouts, hallucinations, and extreme tremors may
occur to the person as a direct result of drinking alcohol. Studies have evidence that
shows that heavy or even moderate drinking during pregnancy can cause serious damage
to the unborn child. This is known as fetal alcohol syndrome. About 10 percent of all the
adult d .....

Apartheid In Modern South Africa
Number of words: 637 - Number of pages: 3.... Written in TIME Magazine by Greenwald, Former President F.W.
de Klerk in February of 1991 opened Parliament with a pledge to legalize the
militantly antiapartheid African National Congress and released A.N.C leader
Nelson Mandela from jail (56). De Klerk also showed his intentions to "bring a
swift end to legally sanctioned racial segregation" (56). "He called on
Parliament to repeal immediately the remaining pillars of discrimination that
dictate where blacks can work and live" (56). De Klerk also asked lawmakers to
discontinue the Group Areas Act which seg .....

Affirmative Action
Number of words: 1237 - Number of pages: 5.... hears from
them again. The main reason why he was not chosen, was because of the
color of his skin. Since he is Asian, they could not hire him, because 50%
of their employees are Asian. Under the affirmative action, they must
employ someone who is underrepresented. This type of situation happens
often. It is not the qualifications, but the color of the skin that
employers look for today. Affirmative action is a step backwards. We are
back to color and race differences. We are all Americans and should be
treated as so, not what ethnicity we are. Affi .....
