They are restricted to the one way of living that they have practiced as time had passed, so they do not know how to break free of that confinement. All the characters as a whole have tried to escape the harsh reality, but in every case they manage to fail, and in turn shatter their dreams like glass. Crooks is one of the loneliest people on the ranch and the saddest because he is unable to do things normal people could do because of his color. Candy was a character who felt the despair of loneliness when he was forced to have his best and only friend killed. His friend was a loyal and loving sheepdog that grew up with Candy and had stuck with him through thick and thin. This destroyed Candy's heart and replaced it with an empty pit of loneliness. Candy felt he had no one to live for anymo .....

.... Ideal does not necessarily translate to a positive viewpoint, though. It could mean the perfectly wrong relationship. It just implies that the characters are both dedicated to their relationship not being positive. In a realistic relationship, there are constant factors interfering with the relationship, and opinions of the other change and vary throughout the work. Claire Kemp, in her short story, “Keeping Company” gives an example of a relationship that is controlled by the male. He suppresses his wife. .... and Lennie. They managed to escpae after hiding in a drain pipe that whole day. This incident greatly angers George because it lost them their job and out their dreams one step further away. Their goal was to own a shack and an acre of land that they can call their own and to live of the "fat of the land' and Lennie wanted to rasie rabbits. This telling of the their dream was greatly loved by Lennie.. especially and only when George told it to him (altough he knew it word from word). George also blames his current situation of down and out luck on Lennie .....

Winston represents Orwell’s view on totalitarianism. He works in the Ministry of Truth, which is a place where history and facts- significant or not are rew .....
