.... is a poem concerned with raising the awareness of national identity. Now I found this hard to believe at first – For me to be able to use this poem, (as it has been my one of my favourites for years) I though that for it to have ANYTHING to do with national identity I would have had to use my creative ability to dissect and warp aspects of the poem that COULD have something to do with national identity if the poet had actually CHOSEN to write about national identity. Basically a lot of windbagging- and as much I was looking forward to see how great my powers .....

.... the novel much like Stephen himself. The figure woman goes from the mother figure, to that of the whore, and finally to the representation of freedom itself. As a child, the image of the mother figure is strong. It is nurturing and supportive, that of "a woman standing at the half-door of a cottage with a child in her arms . . ." (10) who shelters and protects and makes Stephen afraid to "think of how it was" to be without a mother. Out of all three of these stories, the hunger artist is the most in control of his life and what he is doing. In "The Trial" the court and its officials are dragging Joseph K. about. In "The Metamorphosis" Gregor tries to take control of his life and do something about his predicament, but is unable to because of family and friends that don't totally understan .....

.... by the temptations that corrupted him before. More of his past is revealed as the play progresses, giving the audience a sense for how far Becket has traveled along the path of repentance. But even as Becket makes his peace with God, the king's revenge is still impending. Eliot has written a beautiful play that alternates between being powerful and preachy. In certain scenes, the characters address the audience directly. These asides, combined with the intimate and cold atmosphere of the Telengtan Hall, draw the audience into the play.
