Knowles shows how much jealousy Gene had over Finny’ s ability to stay out of trouble, no matter what he did. “This time he wasn’t going to get away with it.” (909). He would rather be in accordance to the rules and be on his best behavior, than to be a rebel who goes against everything. Finny, on the other hand was more of a rebel .....

She needs not give any explanation to the name, as it speaks for itself (a symbol of death). Various other names are used as symbols within each story, however, these mentioned are the most significant names to the theme. The stories each contain names, objects, and acts as important symbols. Hawthorne uses the names to stress good people, but relies heavily on objec .....

.... when she misconstrues the remark of Freddy Eynsford Hill. She starts to get like her old flower girl self and gets so comfortable that she doesn’t even realize it. Henry jumps into the conversation and stops her and she finally realizes what happens. The Eynsford Hills still seem a little bit puzzled because they have never heard a person of such “high class” speak in such a manner. Jake's decision to introduce Brett and Romero ultimately leads to the greatest betrayal in the novel; the betrayal of himself. He betrays himself because he is unconditionally devoted to Brett, and her happiness. He is so in love with Brett that he will do anything for her even it means hurting himself. He is driven by the reality of his physical impotence and therefore gives up on Brett, although in his heart he will always love her. The last remark in the novel is very important in making .....
