Early in the story, Steinbeck uses little symbolic phrases to let the reader know that the chrysanthemums are an extension of Elisa. Her gardening area could be described as a “cage” to protect herself from anything harmful. Knowing that her husband does not show .....

These beatings became so intense and often that Mark thought about dropping out of school. It had a very good story line, which was a love story that ended up in a tragedy. The main character's wife got pregnant and she was off to have her baby when problems started occurring. They had to have a caesarean, and the baby dies, and when the mother of the child starts to hemorrhage Henry knows that it was over for his wife and he was right. They would start at the Tabard Inn in Southwark, which is near London. The characters in this story tell the stories themselves. This style of writing is called framework. There are twenty-four different stories told by the characters who interact with each other throughout the entire tale.
